Domain decomposition methods for the coupling of the Stokes equations and the porous media equations Luigi C. Berselli, Dept. of Applied Math. University of Pisa, Via Bonanno 25/b, I-56126 Pisa, ITALY. We study the system of partial differental equations coming from the coupling of the Stokes equations and Darcy equation. These equations model the transport of substances (back and forth) between surface and ground water. We formulate the problem as a substructuring problem and we solve it by also proposing a preconditioner for an elliptic problem with rapidly varying coefficients. Numerical results showing the effectiveness of the model are given.
