10086 Putnam Seminar Fall 2008
Classes, one hour once weekly in the Math Lounge 705 Thackeray, 5.30pm Thursdays.
Instructor George Sparling gnilraps@gmail.com

This is a problem solving class, oriented towards those who might wish to take
the national Putnam Mathematics examination on the first Saturday in December each year.
Participants should be intensely interested in spending lots of time solving,
or at least attempting to solve, hard problems.
The goal of the class is to enhance the students' problem solving ability
and to fill in knowledge gaps, rounding out the students' mathematical education.
The class may be taken only once for credit (2 credits), but is otherwise open to all comers.
Participation via the Internet is welcomed, for those not at Pitt.
It is not a requirement for this class that you take the Putnam exam.
Grading
Grading is based on class participation and is in the A- to A+ range.
