Research:

I am a member of the Complex Biological Systems Group and am working on several models of the inflammatory and immune responses. I have worked to develop a two-dimensional continuum mechanical model of wound healing of intestinal epithelial cells. This is joint work with David Swigon and Qi Mi. I have also developed a competition model of pathogenic and probiotic bacteria that applies to necrotizing enterocolitis. This is joint work with Bard Ermentrout, Jonathan Rubin, and Yoram Yodovotz.

University of Arizona:

In my dissertation work I developed a theoretical model that analyzes the oxygen-dependent release of ATP by red blood cells and the role of conducted responses and capillary recruitment in metabolic blood flow regulation. I also examined the model's predictions of limit cycle oscillations in vessel diameter as a potential mechanism for vasomotion. (Ph.D. Advisor: Dr. Timothy Secomb)
