• Windows: Easy Windows
• Mac OSX: Install the X server from the DVD which comes with the Mac OS: it is the System/Installation/Packages/X11User file. Then grab one of the binaries in here Look for *macppc* or *macosxintel* depending on your hardware. As long as the old Imac holds out, I can keep up with the PPC version. Uncompress it and run it from a terminal or by clicking.
• Linux - you could compile it yourself, but, instead, you can get the latest binary and copy xppaut to /usr/local/bin
